A music performance major, Stafford came to the University at Buffalo because she received the university's Millonzi Distinguished Honors Scholarship, which covers all of her expenses for four years of study at UB. Raised in a musical home - her mother plays in a marimba ensemble; her brother is a drummer in a band; and a little sister is a "star tuba player," - Stafford was encouraged to pursue a variety of interests, including music. "It was a tossup among art, music, and biology," she says. "I like dance, biology and engineering too." However, with the offer of the generous and distinguished Millonzi Scholarship at UB, Stafford chose to pursue music. "I am grateful for the scholarship," Stafford says, "and for being at UB. The faculty is exceptional, and through the Honors College I have been able to tailor my education. I am receiving a rich education because of the faculty and the performance experience I am getting." Stafford has performed with the UB Symphony Orchestra, Flute Ensemble, and the Jazz Ensemble. She continued: "I also appreciate that UB has fostered an interest in many things. I took art, ballet, and modern literary theory classes." In 2008 she received the Robert and Carol Morris Creative Arts Scholarship to attend the Scottish International Flute Summer School. After graduation from UB Stafford plans to apply to prestigious graduate schools, with the ultimate goal of pursuing a freelance career with chamber ensembles and orchestras. |
